It’s important to note that the visa applicants should check the specific requirements of the visa they are applying for and consult with the Department of Home Affairs or a registered migration agent for more information as the requirements and exemptions can change over time. The sponsor organisation should also provide evidence that the training is relevant to the individual’s occupation, that the individual’s English language skills are sufficient for the training and that the training will not displace an Australian worker.

What English Proficiency Test should I take?

Both IELTS and PTE Academic are accepted for the English Proficiency requirements for visas in Australia.

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) and PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) are both standardized tests designed to measure the English language proficiency of non-native speakers. Both tests are widely accepted by universities, colleges, and immigration departments around the world, including in Australia.

The main difference between the two tests is their format and the way they assess English language proficiency.

IELTS is divided into four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The listening and reading sections consist of multiple-choice questions, the writing section consists of two tasks, and the speaking section is an oral test conducted with an examiner. The test is designed to assess general language proficiency, including grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation.

PTE Academic, on the other hand, is divided into three sections: Speaking and Writing, Reading, and Listening. The Speaking and Writing section are computer-based and the Reading and Listening sections are multiple-choice questions. The test is designed to assess a wide range of academic language proficiency, including grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and listening.

Both tests are graded differently, IELTS scores range from 0 to 9 and PTE scores range from 10 to 90.

IELTS is considered to be more suitable for people who are planning to study or work in an English-speaking country, while PTE Academic is considered more suitable for people who are planning to study in an English-speaking country, especially in Australia, as it is widely accepted by universities and colleges in Australia.

Ultimately, the choice between IELTS and PTE Academic will depend on your personal preferences, the institution you are applying to, and the specific requirements of the visa you are applying for.
